SHARON WHITE (TURNER)

September 27th, 1946 - September 18th, 2016

I know you can no longer read this, but I'd like to put it into words anyway. You are the best mother I could have ever hoped for. The list of things you have done for me is endless. A mother's love is truly the most precious thing there is. At 3:20 as I was writing this, you took your last breath. I'm so sorry that you lost your fight with Cancer. The time you spent over the last 49 years, nursing me back to health, and when you needed it the most, I couldn't help you at all. I'm very grateful to my sister's, Teresa Turner- Bennett & Angela Turner- Perry for all they've done for you over the last few months. They took great care of you. You'll be missed by many, mom. Your pain and suffering is now over. Just know that you meant the world to me and you'll forever be in my heart. I LOVE YOU MOM.

From Rebecca Faris on March 11th, 2012
It burns me that I'm such a procrastinator.  Beth and I knew each other since grade school and we both enjoyed participating in sports.  She, Pat Price, and I hung out together while attending Mesa CC.  I knew she had ALS and kept thinking that I needed to contact her to see how she was doing--now it's too late.  She was a neat person--so very sad to see that she's no longer with us in this life.

From Judy Workman Abney on March 26th, 2012
Beth was a special friend, we shared many fond memories of childhood days. Pickles, lemons, swimming, forts, rushing to do our work so we could fill the hours with being together. We even shared a party line  telephone, I just had to dial a 1.  As I think of those summer days of youth she will always be there- her laugh, her giggles, her adventureous spirit. Beth I love you- lock the keys, lock the keys, throw the keys away nobody else can play all day. Always. Judy

I knew Gerald from our jr. high years, and  he was always wearing a smile on his face.  He was always friendly to people around him.  Kind of jokester,  he loved to kid, but was a friend when one was needed.  I was sincerely sadened to hear of his passing,  I had looked forward to the time, I might get to see him again, and remenis.

From Kathleen Engel on April 22nd, 2014
Gerald was in several of my classes at MHS.  He was always  a "good guy," respectful &  reserved, but ready to laugh.  I don't think he found studying or scholastic work his cup of tea, but he kept up doggedly.  He was an outstanding athlete, especially football, and was a halfback or fullback.  Though he wasn't tall, he was sturdy, unflinching, and dependable.  He was a team player and one of the major components of our state championship football team.  That championship was a highlight of my senior year at Mesa (I was crazy enough to travel to every game, even to Yuma on the bus).  There was such a spirit that year.  And I am grateful to Gerald Kearns for being a part of that.  I'm sure he is running around in the "Great Beyond," free at last.  I'm also sure he has the best wishes of his classmates.   "Carry On!"

Curtis Keeling

February 21st, 1945 - January 31st, 2011

My brother Curtis passed away this morning at 5:15.  He was only 66 years old.  Some of the time I think he lived his life the way he wanted to, but the rest of the time, I don't think he did.  His life was filled with adventure, freedom, sadness, and regret.  My older siblings knew him better than I, having been around him a lot more.  He was his own man in many respects having never married or settled down.  He lived, for the most part, any place that he could find.  Under a Palo Verde tree, in the Superstition mountains, by the river, and many other places.  He never asked for much from anyone, but was always grateful for any help received.  He served in the navy back in the 60's.  He was assigned to serve on the USS Mansfield War Ship.  He went all over the world.  He got into a little bit of trouble but served the extra year to get an honorable discharge.  Material possessions were not important to him.  His last place of residency was Christopher Creek, living in a 16 foot trailer.  When he got really sick, his friend Paula helped him in a huge way.  Always looking in on him and bringing him food.  We are grateful to her, and all the other friends who were always there for Curtis.  We know his reunion with family on the other side has been amazing.  No more pain and suffering for my brother Curtis.  Love you, Ren

Jim and I were best friends all through high school and to the time I went into the Navy. He got me interested in my lifelong hobby, ham radio.  Like a lot of guys, we sort of lost touch and would only occasionally see each other.  The last time I saw Jim was in  2005 after moving back to Mesa after a long absence.  I regret not keeping in closer touch.  He was a sweet and gentle guy and was always patient with my occasional craziness.

I am so sorry to have opened this MHS site to find Bruce's passing noted.  I had heard he was ill, but didn't know the magnitude and seriousness.  Let this be a reminder to keep in touch and to visit often.  Bruce and I were "Best Man" at each other's weddings, and I designed a home for Bruce and Sally as a gift.  I believe it is still their family home.  Bruce and I played alto saxaphone in the Band, and I attended several birthday parties his Mother put on, and was invited to swim at "Granny Gunnell's" home, an unusual opportunity for a Mesa kid in those days, when there was only one public pool in Mesa.  I have always regarded finding Sally as the best thing Bruce ever did, and she remains so today.  My love and kindest wishes to Sally and their kids.

Saturday, November 24, 2007

Rosanne Marie Hinton

Rosanne Marie Minnick was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico on July 1, 1946. She died in Cortez, Colorado, the place she had called home from May of 1984 until November 17, 2007. Her first encounter with cancer was in 1973 (thyroid) however after a long battle she finally yielded to ovarian cancer.

The youngest daughter of Thomas (Tom) B. and Beatrice (Bea) Minnick she was survived by them and her sister Lacey Cook all of Clayton, New Mexico. Her two children, Michael S. Exum of Lubbock, Texas and daughter Lisa Marie Walker of Cortez, Colorado both celebrated her life at her memorial services both in Cortez and Clayton. She, also, left behind three grand-children whom she adored; Cole, Zane and Zander; and a nephew Britt Swart.

Rosanne grew up in Mesa, Arizona and graduated in 1964. She briefly attended Lubbock Christian University (then LCC). However, she was soon back in Tempe, Arizona where she met and married Ronald S. Exum (later in Lubbock, TX). They were married 27 years (1966-1993) during which time they lived in San Diego, CA; Lubbock, TX; Rankin, TX; Apache Junction, AZ; Good Year, AZ; El Dorado Springs, MO; Amarillo, TX; Bronte, TX; and Cortez, CO. Those years her life was as a Navy wife, minister’s wife, and in her becoming a certified nurse’s assistant. She was always well spoken of as a mother to her children by others. She married Harold E. (Ed) Hinton of Cortez on October 17, 1998 but that ended in May 2001. She worked in the medical field until she retired.

Rosanne was widely known for her quick smile and laughter and her open friendly heart. She was, like her mother before her, very devoted to her children and grand-children.

Rosanne became affiliated with the Rock Springs Community Church which hosted the celebration of her life which many of her friends from the area attended. Ron Exum of Seattle, WA was also present.

Melodee and I were on the Mesa High Debate team together and we won the State championship beating Brophy.  We were partners that worked in sync.  She had a keen intellect and great skill in disecting the other teams points.   She was devoted to making a better world for everyone.  She is missed.

When I saw your name I could hardly believe that you are no longer with us.  When I think of the great times we shared, it's like I'm 18 again.  Of course we started out as neighbors in the 4th grade, so we should have had a wonderful friendship.

You may be gone but you are forever in my heart and wonderful memorys.

Image Lorin and I were best of friends for a long time during High School. We used to run around town and have a great time. We double dated many times, I don't remember one of his girlfriends first name but her last name was Heap. Maybe the family will know who I'm talking about. I also knew Dorin. What happen with him? I will always remember you Lorin, we had some great times. Your buddy, Tom Hannum

Valona spent the last 20 years of her life in Payson, Az. with her husband Dave Crowell.although she was in a wheelchair, and had to use a stick in her mouth to use the computer, she ran a very sucessful Indian Art business.  She also wrote a book, "The Artist and the Bucking Horse" and published it.  She sold the rights to the book, and all of the paintings shown in the book to the Pro Rodeo Hall of Champions in colorado Springs, where the books and art collection are on display.  Valona lived a full life right up to the time that she died from complications from MS. Even though she was severly disabled, she worked on the computer, traveled the West to various art shows, and spent as much time as possible in her beloved Taos, New Mexico.

WILMA GOODRUM (Sarai Austin)

Karen Husted WROTE:
I reached out today to my dear friend Sarai Austin and was surprised when her husband Richard answered her cell phone. I was stunned when Richard told me Sarai succumbed to a massive heart attack 2 days ago. To my Mesa High friends, you will remember Sarai as Wilma Goodrum, who changed her name when she began publishing her poetry. We were best friends from 7th grade, she stood up with me when I married Dean 30 years ago, and we maintained our close friendship all these years. We finished each other's sentences, laughed at the same things, shared the same view of the world. Angel's wings, dear friend, I will miss you every day and will be incomplete without you.
